The project Mandarin aims to foster and cultivate international friendships between Swiss and Chinese students.

Dates of the Swiss Trip: 15–24 July 2019

Dates of the trip to China: 30 July – 8 August 2019

We want to provide the participants with a deep insight into the versatile and fascinating culture of China as well as into the Swiss traditions and values. The project emerged from a cooperation of the RI and the China Club at the University of St. Gallen in 2012. We have cooperated with various prestigious Chinese universities including the Tshingua University and the Peking University. The Peking University, colloquially known in Chinese as Beida, is the first established modern national university of China. It is ranked in the Top 3 among all Chinese Universities and also placed in the Chinese C9-League. Throughout its history, the university has educated and hosted many prominent modern Chinese thinkers, including figures such as Lu Xun, Mao Zedong, Gu Hongming, Hu Shih, Li Dazhao, and Chen Duxiu.

Next Destination

In contrast to the other exchange tours, Mandarin does not annually change its destination, but is exclusively focused on China. The RI is regularly partnering with Peking University. Swiss Trip: 15–24 July 2019 – Trip to Beijing: 30 July – 8 August 2019

The program includes lectures, workshops, city tours and company visits in both countries. In the last years, activities in Switzerland included visits to the UN and the parliament building, a trip to the Jungfraujoch, visits to cheese and chocolate factories, as well as workshops with companies such as Blaser Swisslube, Baloise and Strategy&.

Duration & Costs

The project involves a 10-day program in Switzerland as well as a 10-day part in China (plus an optional privately organized post-trip). The price for Mandarin 2019 will be approx. CHF 1’350.- and includes everything in both countries (e.g. the flight, the accommodation, the food all entry fees, the transport etc.).
